Clydesdale Bank was founded in 1838 with a head office in Glasgow and a single branch in Edinburgh.
Since then we have grown into one of the leading Scottish banks. We have often been the first to introduce new services designed to make life easier and better for our customers. Cheque guarantee cards and personal loans are two examples of financial services that were pioneered in Scotland by Clydesdale Bank.
One element of our service that has remained essentially unchanged is our belief in the importance of building and maintaining relationships with all our customers.
Just as our earlier fortunes were linked closely with those of Scotland's 19th century traders, industrialists and merchants, so our business banking services today match the needs of a new generation of enterprise, from the smallest sole trader to the largest corporation.
Our personal customers enjoy the advantages of friendly service through a comprehensive network of over 150 branches throughout Scotland, in London and the North of England, as well as access to some of the most advanced 'ATM's in the UK.
While we are continuing to invest in our branches, we're also giving customers increasing choice in the ways they want to manage their finances: over the counter, over the phone, over the internet, or face-to-face with our personal bankers and mobile mortgage advisers.
We're a socially inclusive bank, with a range of financial services solutions tailored to the needs of all income levels. We are also committed to helping all customers to protect and enhance their wealth through a comprehensive range of insurance and investment options.
Clydesdale Bank is currently expanding its operations into the South of England with its innovative Financial Solutions Centres, offering customers a highly integrated business and private banking service.
Clydesdale Bank was accredited with Investors in People along with the whole of the group's UK operations in 2005, reflecting the value the Bank places on training and developing its people. In addition, Clydesdale Bank was voted "Best Mortgage Lender in Scotland" 2005 by Your Mortgage Magazine, an award which we have won for the past two years.
Since 1987, we have been a member of the National Australia Bank, an international financial services group which at September 2005 had assets of more than £180 billion, almost 8 million banking customers and more than 2.3 million wealth management clients.
So while we remain Scottish at heart (we issue our own banknotes commemorating famous Scots, for example) we now provide customers with products and services with a world of experience behind them.
