Commonwealth SPL stars back the bid
On 9th November 2007 Scotland will find out if their bid to host the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow has been successful. The Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) will meet in Colombo, Sri Lanka where the 71 countries and territories of the Commonwealth will vote on who will host the 2014 Commonwealth Games.
Clydesdale Bank are a Major Supporter of the bid to bring the Games to Scotland, and to highlight the forthcoming bid announcement, linked this and their SPL sponsorship for a unique photograph with 4 Clydesdale Bank Premier League players from different Commonwealth countries.
Scot Steven Naismith (Rangers), Australian Danny Invincible (Kilmarnock), New Zealander Chris Killen (Celtic) and Trinidad and Tobago's Chris Birchall (St Mirren) were on hand at Hampden Park, Glasgow today to show their personal support and the support of their respective clubs for the bid to bring the 2014 Commonwealth Games to Scotland.
Steve Reid, Clydesdale Bank's General Manager of Retail and Wealth Management, said:
"We are delighted to combine our support of the 2014 bid and the SPL this weekend - Glasgow will be a fantastic host city and will be an ambassador for the Scottish people."

Commenting on the bid, Rangers' Steven Naismith said:
"I think the Commonwealth Games coming to Glasgow in 2014 would be massive for the city and for Scotland as a whole. I know Ibrox will be hosting the Rugby 7s event and it's great for the club to be involved in such a huge event."
Kilmarnock's Danny Invincible said:
"The Commonwealth Games were held in Melbourne in 2006 and as an Australian I know how successful the Games were and the positive impact it had on the country as a whole. I see no reason why the Commonwealth Games coming to Scotland in 2014 can't have the same impact. "
Celtic's Chris Killen said:
"I've only been in Scotland for a couple of years but I can see already how much sport means to the Scottish people. Glasgow would be a great host for the 2014 Commonwealth Games and it's great that Celtic Park will be used for the opening ceremony as the Scots would create a fantastic atmosphere in the stadium."
St Mirren's Chris Birchall said:
"The Commonwealth Games are a huge event and it would be wonderful for the people of Scotland to be able to play host in 2014. The Scottish public are extremely passionate about their sport and deserve the chance to show this to the world."
If Scotland wins the right to host the Games, Hampden Park will host the track and field events, and the closing ceremony. Celtic Park will be utilised as the venue for the opening ceremony while Ibrox Stadium will host the Rugby 7s competition.
We'll be watching on 9th November to find out if Scotland's bid to host the 2014 Commonwealth Games has been successful.
