The excitement of a local derby can never be beaten as you look to get one over your nearest rivals.  This season we have three derbies in the Clydesdale Bank Premier League and we wanted to know which is your favourite.

The Edinburgh derby came out on top with 44% of you saying it was your favourite rivalry.  Hearts and Hibs have met in competitive action 312 times with Hearts having the better record, they have come out on top with 138 wins compared to Hibs’ 85 wins.  The two clubs met in the Scottish Cup Final last year with Hearts winning 5-1 although Hibs restored some pride with a 1-1 draw at Easter Road earlier this season.  The record competitive victory between the clubs is held by Hibs who defeated Hearts 7-0 in 1973.

The Edinburgh derby was closely followed by the Tayside derby which secured 43% of the vote.  This season was the first Dundee derby in the top flight since 2005, when Dundee United defeated Dundee 2-1 following goals from Mark Wilson and Jim McIntyre with Steve Lovell scoring for Dundee.  United kept up their recent winning record in derbies with a 3-0 win at Tannadice earlier this season.  Overall the two sides have met 155 times with Dundee the victors on 45 occasions, Dundee United recording 73 wins and 37 matches drawn.  Former Dundee United forward Paul Sturrock is the record goalscorer in Dundee derbies with 14 goals for his side between 1974 and 1989.

The Highland derby received 13% of your vote as the favourite Clydesdale Bank Premier League derby.  The first match between Inverness Caledonian Thistle and Ross County in the top division took place last weekend with Caley Thistle recording a historic 3-1 win in Inverness.  This derby is the most northerly professional football fixture in the UK and the two clubs are separated by approximately 13 miles.  The rivalry is also one of the newest in Scottish football with Inverness CT being formed in 1994 following the merger of Inverness Caley and Inverness Thistle. Both Inverness CT and Ross County were voted into the Scottish Football League in 1994 and since then the two sides have met on 36 occasions, with Caley Thistle winning 18 and Ross County winning 9, with 9 draws being shared between the sides.

As our sides continue to battle for local supremacy there are sure to be many more exciting derby days in the league this season.  Turning our attentions away from the Clydesdale Bank Premier League and onto European action our new poll looks to find out how you think Celtic will fare in their Champions League Group.  Let us know now by voting in the competitions section.
