Befriend a Child’s Big Kids Ball trophy visit
We recently took the Clydesdale Bank Premier League trophy along to Befriend a
Child’s premier charity event, the Big Kids Ball, in Aberdeen thanks to local
man Calum Lawrie who was the February winner of our “Win the Trophy”
competition.
Calum, who is a Volunteer Co-ordinator for Befriend a Child, saw the opportunity
to win the trophy for the charity’s showcase event as a chance he just couldn’t
pass up. The charity is Scotland’s oldest befriending organisation for children
and has provided one to one support and friendship to vulnerable and
disadvantaged children in Aberdeen since 1975. Having the Clydesdale Bank
Premier League trophy along to the charity dinner was the perfect way to enhance
the night and reward the attendees for their help and support throughout the
year.
The Big Kids Ball attracted a large crowd with over 380 people in attendance to
support the charity. Various local businesses and partners also contributed to
the evening by providing donations to the auction and raffle; however the trophy
proved to be the star attraction. Volunteers and guests had the opportunity to
have their photo taken with the trophy for a small donation to the charity, and
the chance to see the trophy up close certainly brought smiles to their faces.
Calum said: “When I heard that I had won the competition, I was absolutely
delighted. Seeing the SPL trophy up close, and in Aberdeen, is a real treat and
having it here at the Big Kid’s Ball is a fantastic way of saying thank you to
our supporters. Personally, this is certainly something I will never forget.
Many thanks to all from Clydesdale Bank for this great opportunity.”
Trophy visits Renfrew Victoria’s FC Under 9s
The Clydesdale Bank Premier League trophy spent an evening at Renfrew Victoria’s
Under 9s football training at Trinity High School in Renfrew, thanks to Elaine
Kirkwood, whose son Alexander plays for the team. Elaine won the trophy for the
day as the winner of a raffle prize donated by ourselves to learning
difficulties charity Enable.
We have donated a variety of prizes to worthwhile
causes and raffles throughout our sponsorship of the SPL, and Elaine won her
prize at the Enable Charity Ball. Enable campaign for a better life for children
and adults with learning disabilities and Elaine was delighted she could help
the charity as well as winning the trophy for her son’s football team. She said:
“It was an absolute joy to see the smiles on the kids faces when the trophy came
in, I’m just glad I helped make the kids day as a result of benefiting Enable.”
Each of the teams and players got to have their photograph taken with the trophy
during the club’s training session as well as a few parents. Renfrew Victoria’s
coach Ross Kenna said: “It was a great experience for the kids to get their
photo with the SPL trophy. The boys were thrilled to see the trophy their
footballing heroes have held, and their excitement certainly showed just how
much it really meant to them. It really is a day they will all remember for the
rest of their lives and shows what the boys can achieve if they stick in at
their football”.
Trophy goes to Dunlop Primary School
The Clydesdale Bank
Premier League trophy visited Dunlop Primary School, thanks to David Caulfield
who was the first winner of our ‘win the trophy for the day’ competition.
David,
who sits on the Parent Association Board of Dunlop Primary School, saw the
opportunity to win the trophy for the school’s Christmas Fayre as a chance he
just couldn’t pass up. The school are aiming to raise £15,000 to help in their
efforts to install an outdoor classroom to further encourage healthy activities
and exercise amongst the pupils, and having the trophy was the perfect
opportunity to help the school raise funding.
Dunlop’s Christmas Fayre attracted
a large crowd, with the trophy being the star attraction of the day. Pupils and
their parents had the opportunity to have their photo taken with the trophy for
a small donation to the school’s fundraising efforts, and the chance to see the
trophy up close certainly brought plenty of smiles to the children’s faces.
David said: “I would just like to thank the Clydesdale Bank for bringing the
trophy to such a small village. You can see the delight on the kids faces as
they are getting their photo with the trophy, it really does mean the world to
them. Hopefully one day we will see them on the TV lifting the trophy for real.
I also need to say a huge thanks to all the parents and children who donated
their money to get their photo with the trophy as it was a huge boost to our
efforts in raising the required funding for our outdoor classroom.”
